Hydropower Resource Analysis Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Hydropower Resource Analysis - Assignment Example This paper also reviews in depth about the hydroelectric scheme and discusses the methods of determining its sustainability by way of presenting methods of selecting appropriate turbines in relation to the head and flow of water source. It uses tables of generation tariffs in U.K. and shows how and what revenue is achievable with possible periods of payback of huge initial investment needed for the project. The power of water is dependent upon its pressure which is built by the height of water source. The pressure is found at the point from where water is released. The vertical distance between the water releasing point and water source such as reservoir, tank, etc. determines the water pressure. It is this elevation which is known as ââ¬Å"Headâ⬠and measured in meters as a vertical distance. Water ââ¬ËFlowââ¬â¢ is the amount of water quantity or ââ¬Ëvolumeââ¬â¢ in a given time. It is therefore measured as cubic meter per second (m3/s) representing volume of water and time in which it flows. The density of water and earth gravity also affects the flow of water. The density of water is commonly taken as 1000 kg/m3 and earth gravitational force is a constant having value of 9.81 m/ s3 (ESHA 2004) Pipelines are most commonly used for moving water from higher source point to a lower release point. There are many barriers in the way of water travel that reduces water distance. This includes size and shape of pipelines, friction of water with pipe material, the joints, design flow and the sides. All of these and many other factors create loss and therefore Head is always taken as net; the vertical distance is subtracted with expected loss in transit and Net Head is derived. All calculations in this paper are based on net head. The word Hydropower refers to the force of water. It is also referred mostly as hydraulic power. Generation of electricity from hydropower or hydraulic power is referred as Hydroelectric or hydraulic electricity. Figure 1 illustrates

Business Tourism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Business Tourism - Essay Example (Parliament, Great Britain, Media and Sport Committee Culture, and House of Commons, 2005) Although the Business tourism in Britain is well over à £ 20 Billion currently, still the tourism industry is eagerly anticipating Olympics, because that is supposed to bring some good omen after the last decision by the government to cut the funding for tourism by nearly one fifth, some economists had discovered that this decision was made on completely inaccurate data which stated an over anticipated growth in the industry. (Connor, Ashling, 2008) Here in this report we have discussed all the above and have also stated the future prospects of the tourism industry and the effects of 2012 Olympics on it. We have also provided a strong conclusion and recommendations as to the best options and growth opportunities in Britain. The non-discretionary business tourism is composed of the individual or corporate travel garners à £ 7 billion of revenues per annum. There has been a 53% growth in all business trips to the UK in the span of more than a decade. Approximately, 7 million visits are made to the UK each year for business purposes. (Rogers, Tony, 2003) The decision made by the government to cut the revenues and expenditures by a fifth was not justified and the opposition as well as the tourism promotion NGOââ¬â¢s realize that and some have even protested against that decision, after all, we wouldnââ¬â¢t want to ruin Englandââ¬â¢s name by not being prepared or rather not being able to organize a breathtaking Olympics, we have to at least show a better performance than most of the first or third world countries, being one of the most supreme and developed nation. (Great Britain: National Audit Office, 2007) One of the most alluring characters of the business tourism industry is that it creates a lot of job as well as business opportunities as well as it sustains the workforce as it is an industry thatââ¬â¢s growing at a constant and stable growth rate. Literature Review Dissertation Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Literature Review - Dissertation Example Policies, for example, imposing tariffs on some goods and products are issues that make many organizations uneasy. To try and correct this issue, there have been several articles that criticize the moves that the WTO is currently employing. This paper will review some of the issues raised by authors and their take on the policies by the WTO. Authorsââ¬â¢ criteria Faridul Islam, David McArthur, and Ian Wilson are the authors of ââ¬Å"Globalization and the World Trade Organization: The Challenges Ahead.â⬠This article reiterates what was said earlier by author Martin Khor on the troubles that the WTO faces in todayââ¬â¢s trading economy (Islam, McArthur, & Wilson, 2007). Martin Khor is the Executive Director of the South Centre. It is an intergovernmental organization that aids developing countries in research. Previously, he used to be the head of the Third World Network. He criticized some of these policies, claiming that they do not consider developing nations in interna tional trade, and their stake in the global market. Khor implies that the WTO is biased towards the richer countries. This point is supported by the authors of the article on globalization. What people do not seem to realize is that there are poor countries that need to participate in trade. This is in order for them to help their economies grow and develop. The economies in third world countries keep going down the drain, and the people suffer due to the policies put in place by the WTO (Islam, McArthur, & Wilson, 2007). The difficulty with such strategies is that the vast population of people in the developing nations has nobody to look out for their interests. In the interests of the population in the developing nations, the policies that exist are out to serve the people of more developed countries. Their products reach a vast area of other continents, and they also get products from other areas. However, they do this at a much cheaper rate than the manufacturer used to manufact ure their products (Davey & Jackson, 2008). This is what has many organizations up in arms trying to figure out a way through these policies, and help the different economies in the member countries of this organization. Levels of analysis What the authors of the article claim is the point that developing countries lack the capacity to follow negotiations by the WTO. This presents a problem to these countries. In order to comprehend what goes on, they need to be an intricate part of the international community. This is when it comes to trade and the problems associated with trading internationally. Having high import duties on countries that can barely afford to export their products is not fair. This is as the authors suggest in the article and bring Martin Khorââ¬â¢s point to light. In order for there to be a fair chance for all countries to trade freely, the stipulations should be changed to suit the current situation (Khor, 2007). It is vital that everyone has the potential t o understand what impact such policies have on them and their economy. Trade cannot be trade if only one country or a selected few are involved in it. There has to be the fair exchange of commodities, products, goods, and services so as to call it trading. The creation of barriers in trade should not be out to benefit one country, while leaving some out in the cold (Krueger & Aturupane, 2000). International trade enables the coming together of people of different ethnic, cultural, and

Current issues in dissability studies activity 12 Essay
Current issues in dissability studies activity 12 - Essay Example t for successful transition, because an individual may perform better in one environment than the other; and the transition to adulthood encompasses several factors outlined above (Lones, 1997). However, some assessments are required to ascertain the level of individual involvement in the process; the level of parental involvement; the level of school involvement and the extent of involvement of other inter-agencies. When all these issues have been analyzed, it is possible to determine how successful the transition will be. The process of inclusion can depend on how much usefulness the disabled person to the society. If the person has acquired good education, such a person could be included in the working environment where such knowledge would be utilized. The person may also be included in the community activities. But when such an assessment has not been properly made, it may be difficult for the individual to be fully included in the society. Answer 2: There are certain issues that all parties (parents, schools, agencies etc) involved in helping a disabled individual undergo transition must take note of: (i) the individual must be given full support during the transition stage; (ii) the individual must be assessed periodically about the level of knowledge acquisition; (iii) the society must be patient for the individual to demonstrate his or her capability, which will encourage smooth inclusion; (iv) the individual must be encouraged at every stage of the transition and inclusion. Once the issues highlighted above have been taken good care of, the inclusion of such an individual in community activities, working environments, educational setting, and other places, would be smooth and

Reasons for Choosing to Become a WGU Student Essay
Reasons for Choosing to Become a WGU Student - Essay Example Not only I worked intensely, but I also had to pay the bills and take all kinds of loads an independent man does. I conducted a thorough research and found that no collegeââ¬â¢s classes matched my schedule. I had to leave the work in order to pursue further education, which was clearly not a practicable option for me. Therefore, I started searching for courses in online education. Distance education was increasingly being adopted as a way to advance the academic career. I also thought about doing the same, though I had mixed feelings about it. I knew it would allow me to acquire a bachelors degree as I felt convenient, but doubted whether such a degree would be valued by the employers. Besides, choosing the best online university from among a myriad of options was another challenge confronting me. I started browsing ads online and checking peopleââ¬â¢s opinions and suggestions both online and otherwise. My research led me to the conclusion that most of the online universities l acked regional accreditation, were quite expensive for the students and their graduates were still not liked at large. Finally, a friend of mine suggested me to search about the Western Governors University (WGU), saying that WGU was not only accredited regionally, but was also quite affordable and suitable for me considering the situation I was in. Initially I took it as a regular advice and didnââ¬â¢t expect much. But as I conducted a little research, I happened to find that the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities had accredited WGU, which was itself accredited by CHEA. A number of other schools were accredited by the same organization. Such schools included but were not limited to Brigham Young, Lewis & Clark, and the University of Oregon. While reviewing the bachelorââ¬â¢s degree in IT at WGU, I found that WGU offered nine certifications many of which were more than sufficient for an individual to acquire a high-paying job of a technician in my area. As my fr iend had said, WGU was really affordable. All I had to pay was $5780 a year in two installations, each of which was for six months. Therefore, WGU not only provided me with a way to attend the school as per my convenience, but also have more time for leisure activities as it saved me a lot of money that would otherwise have been consumed in paying the fee of another school. The most fascinating characteristic feature of WGU was that it offered classes at 3am, unlike any brick and mortar school I knew. Message for my friend Just like one very sincere friend of mine solved this issue for me, I would like to introduce WGU to you so that the positive message is spread and more and more people can benefit from the tremendous opportunities WGU has to offer. If you are looking for a reputable degree from a regionally accredited school, and also want to continue your full time job with it without having to bear too large a cost in the name of fee, WGU is one school that can provide you with all of these. By recommending you WGU, I am saving you all the headache and waste of time that I had incurred while searching for a good school. I assure you that you will not regret to choose to study in WGU. You may look for the kind of certificates WGU issues in the discipline of your interest and see if they suffice the requirements for job eligibility in your area, which they most probably would! It is a complete package for the ones looking for a practicable option to advance their career
